Ibotta is a free rewards and payments app that gives consumers cash back for everyday online and in-store purchases. Partnering with over 1,500 brands and retailers, Ibotta helps users earn cash back when they shop online, complete a receipt upload, link a loyalty account, or leverage the app’s “Pay with Ibotta” mobile pay feature. As a growing brand, Ibotta sought a strategic – and scalable – partnership that could drive high LTV users at a competitive CPA.
Campaign
To help Ibotta achieve its growth goals, Fluent launched a campaign on The Smart Wallet (TSW), an owned and operated content site within its portfolio of digital properties. As a trusted media brand designed to help consumers discover new ways to earn, win, and save money, TSW was a perfect fit from an audience alignment perspective.
Fluent created custom content pieces to highlight Ibotta’s value proposition and drive awareness around new features. Performing rigorous testing, Fluent made campaign optimizations based on findings from top-performing copy, creative, and content formats. Identifying the messaging that resonated best with their audience, Ibotta also applied these insights to their overall marketing strategy.
Fluent closely monitored the success of the campaign using a seamless integration with AppsFlyer, a leading mobile app tracking and attribution platform. Offering full transparency into performance, Fluent was able to track and report on the full user experience, including post-conversion events beyond the initial receipt upload or mobile commerce purchase.

Fluent has reduced Ibotta’s cost per acquisition by 51% year-over-year, enabling Ibotta to scale their UA campaign and double spend since launching in November 2018. Insights gathered from A/B testing provide added value to the partnership, informing Ibotta’s cross-channel media strategy and helping them to gain a better understanding of their target audience.
