The Controller will lead the accounting department and own the financial reporting process reporting directly to the SVP of Finance. Fluent is the subsidiary of a public company but operates in a “start-up” environment. The right candidate will have a positive “can do” approach to challenges, as well as a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and unquestionable integrity. We expect the candidate to possess superior technical skills – specifically, GAAP knowledge, extensive accounting systems and Excel experience, fast and accurate financial statement and workpaper preparation, and the ability to learn and master different software systems quickly and fully. Excellent organization, management and communication skills are a must!

Responsibilities

Cash Management 

  • Oversee cash availability and weekly cash needs. 
  • Assist with daily cash management. Create, maintain, and modify cash tracking worksheets. 

 

Accounts Payable

  • Oversee and monitor approval process on AP. 
  • Manage financial relationship with major vendors. 
  • Control access to check printing. 

 

Accounts Receivable

  • Coordinate with client services to ensure accurate invoicing. 
  • Oversee collections process. 
  • Manage financial relationship with major clients. 
  • Oversee credit application process. 

 

Payroll

  • Monitor payroll processing to ensure accuracy and efficiency. 
  • Oversee quarterly and annual bonus and commission accruals and payouts. 
  • Reconcile and record payroll entries in accounting system. 
  • Ensure accurate payment to benefit vendors. 
  • Support and assist in the payroll process as needed. 

 

Financial Statements and Reporting

  • Review monthly bank reconciliations. 
  • Review workpapers on a monthly basis to support trial balances. 
  • Prepare monthly finance package for parent and subsidiary companies. 
  • Maintain and file year end workpapers in an orderly and timely manner. 
  • Coordinate annual audit with external accountants on a quarterly basis. 

 

Tax Reporting and Compliance

  • Provide external tax accountants necessary documents to complete tax returns in a timely manner 
  • Ensure that company complies with IRS and local state rules and regulations. 

 

Budgeting and Variance Reporting

  • Prepare annual SG&A forecast on a quarterly basis for inclusion in externally facing projections. 
  • Coordinate monthly variance analysis process ensuring that budget owners are held accountable for variance reporting. 

 

Management of Accounting Staff

  • Manage a team consisting of a Senior Accountant, two Staff Accountants and an Accounting Clerk through excellent leadership, organization and communication.

THE ROLE

This is an opportunity to grow an early stage and emerging internal push notification program for an audience first marketing services company. Ideally you have 1+ years of experience in email marketing, push notification marketing, or online marketing, with a strong understanding of marketing analytics, technical aptitude, basic HTML skills, and a strong analytic mindset.

You’ll be responsible for the end-to-end operations of an emerging push program: creating exciting marketing messages, deploying push notifications, and analyzing impact on revenue and performance to constantly improve KPIs.
